It’s the Superbowl, a world title fight and New Years Eve all wrapped up into one night, it’s the first presidential debate.
A quick post to just simply say what Joe Biden needs to do to win this debate, and that is simply not defend the indefensible…and be completely honest.
If Joe Biden get’s caught up in trying to explain away the nepotism that his sone Hunter has been the beneficiary of, or try and take the high ground on the next appointment to SCOTUS then what will happen is that the debate will turn into a he-said-he-said.
Hunter Biden has been afforded opportunities that are beyond his skill set and to say anything other than that is a fantasy…or as Trump might say ‘Fake News’, likewise when Biden argues for the right for a President to appoint a Justice in the last year of Obama’s term, those words can now be used against him as to why Trump can appoint one.
Brutal honesty is what Biden needs to offer, it will be refreshing and appealing to the voting public and could be a turning point for Biden.
Moderator asks Biden about Hunter.
Biden, “there is no doubt that Hunter, and at time all of my children, were afforded opportunities that others may not have been because of who I am, and what I do, this may not be appealing to the voting public, frankly I am a bit embarrassed by it…however…if this man who would be King, thinks that this is an eliminating fact for someone to be president I would bring to the public’s attention his string of princes and princesses who are, as we speak, sitting in the halls of power and involved in decision making that can affect the lives of every person who is watching this broadcast…if it’s eliminating for me…what about you Mr. President? Yes ‘nepotism’ is real, yes it’s ugly and embarrassing so why don’t we do this. I pledge when I am president to bring legislation that any family appointee to the Whitehouse, or any position of political power, needs to have Congressional approval. Will you pledge to do the same Mr. President?”
Moderator asks Biden about what he said 4 years ago in support of appointing a Justice in the final year of a Presidential term.
Biden, “look let’s be clear, the Republican party stole a Supreme Court nominee from Barrack Obama and are now trying to have their cake and eat it too. ‘Yes’ I am against President Trump appointing a Justice simply because the GOP owes the Democrats a nominee. That’s it, they stole one and now the theft needs to be corrected. The real question is where to from here. If the Republicans under President Trump go forward with this hypocrisy and appoint a conservative justice then there is going to be decades of turmoil between the parties and the voting public because of it. Here is my pledge. Recant your desire to double dip, allow the next President to appoint the Justice and if I am honoured enough to hold the position I promise to return the nomination process to the way it has always been before 2016. A civil, fair, honouring way to have the highest court in the land be fair and balanced for the betterment of all Americans. The Republicans have a choice today…40 to 50 years of infighting, conflict and war between the parties and their supporters that will serve no positive outcome…or stand by your word of 4 years ago, allow the next President – which I hope to be me – to appoint the Justice and the Supreme Court process will return to normal.”
Be that said, will this be what happens?
Well, ‘No’
Biden will defend Hunter and try to explain why, like the Republicans, he has changed his position on appointing a Justice in the year of an election and like a good world title fight…we’ll all just look for the blood and potential knockout blow that could come from either candidate.
