Matthew Hooton on Radiolive

hootonA very strange occurrence happened at about 2.20pm this afternoon on Radiolive.

The normal political panel was happening with Matthew Hooton and Matt McCarten being left and right guests on Willie and JTs show when Hooton began what appeared to be a calculated attack on the hosts for their much controversial comments about the Roastbusters a couple of days ago.

Mr Hooton spent a few minutes explaining why these alleged offenders were men and not boys by using a Gallipoli analogy then this occurred.

I have to say I am not quite sure how to take this, and what the reaction was over the ‘Clint Rickards’ comments, it either struck a nerve, or it was so offensive to the hosts that they could stand it no more.

As this ‘Roastbusters’ conversation continues in various forms I wonder how many more of these kinds of blow ups we see and hear both publically and privately

Did Hooton do the right thing in your opinion?

I didn’t hear the show, but have very little time for the lynch mob who want to string the boys up. The Roastbusters are the natural progeny of the condom on a broomstick culture where sex is little more than a game and where Miley Cyrus earns megabucks by displaying her availability. Reap what you sow and all that. Not to mention the hypocrisy of Len Brown…

Surprised at how this has taken off and is a matter of police credibility, vigilante reaction and an embarrassed PM.

Police, welfare and secondary teachers are aware of this but until now for whatever reasons (failure of victims to complain, forcing career ending issues by drawing very public attention to it, fear of whistle blowers) nobody will act.

The culture is one of licentious, salacious sex oriented exhibitionism on social media.

It’s a safe bet though that a. Police will cop flak, and b. Family Planning will claim the whole debacle as a result of under-funding.

I can’t believe the tremendous over reaction to what Willie was trying to say regarding the roastbuster situation. Not once did I hear either of them say they supported the actions of these boys what Willie was saying was where were the bloody parents of these kids he said this was a complex issue and he’s rite. These two are in many ways the voices for us ordinary working class people those who listen to these two enjoy their straight up talk and honest commentaries we know what they mean. Give them a break they have apologized to amy and anyone else they may have offended they have stepped aside to reflect on the show what more do u want. Everyone makes mistakes even the willie jacksons and John tamiheres of this world give them a break if others such as John veitch can cum back after his behavior why not these two ? Kia kaha willie and jt this is a test yo see who ur friends are
