Accusations of Affair in Mayor Len Brown’s Office

Today Whaleoil has broken an alleged story of an extra-martial affair between Mayor Len Brown and a Council employee 30 years his junior, the story comes with text messages that again are alleged to be between Len Brown and the woman in question.

The story has been written by Stephen Cook who was sacked by the Herald on Sunday for not informing them of drug dealing charges he was facing.

Is this an issue for the public, is it something that could end the career of the ‘Christian’ Mayor Len Brown?

The salient points to whether this is ‘news’ or not and if it should effect Mayor Len Brown’s career are that the women in question is a Council employee and some of the alleged illicit encounters happened in business hours on Council land.

So ‘Yes’ if the story is true as we see it right now this could be very costly for Len Brown.

Pat,”Whether it is a matter for the public ?” oh yes it is, ask any public figure over the years. He has now given away any moralistic ground he may have stood on – the only interesting thing is to see that now he has admitted this will the story will lose traction quicker than it may have.

I may not agree with what he has done, but it is his private business. Many people have affairs, and being in the public eye makes it even more likely. It is not right in my view, but neither is it illegal. Moreover, it is not my business. If John Key were to have an affair behind his wife’s back, the same attitude would apply in my mind. I may be a Len supporter, but his private business, even on Council property, is his business.

I can make moral judgements based upon my own moral code. However, I cannot make moral judgements in regards to others unless their moral judgements are so repugnant or infringe upon me. Len sleeping with someone does not affect his ability as Mayor. As such, I really do not care. 🙂
